Hemorrhoids are painful, itchy and uncomfortable and are caused by the veins in the anus and rectum becoming inflamed and swollen. Most people suffer from these between the ages of 45 and 65.
Besides using the more common suppositories to relieve and eliminate these hemorrhoids, there are more natural hemorrhoid treatments to try. A treatment that may not be really considered a new hemorrhoid treatment, but helps prevent and eliminate the hemorrhoids, is fiber. Eating foods that are rich in fiber or taking a fiber supplement can soften the stool to prevent the straining that can cause hemorrhoids.
Bioflavonoids can be considered a new hemorrhoid treatment, and is also a natural one. They are a plant compound that strengthen the walls of the blood vessels to decrease inflammation. Most bioflavonoids are found in citrus fruits. There is also a product called Daflon that helps improve the symptoms in pregnant women.
A visit to the drug store can help to find another natural hemorrhoid treatment. Witch hazel compress or cream is something good to try. It is applied directly to the anal area and will relieve the hemorrhoid symptoms. This is made from the bark and leaves of a plant.
Another plant used for treatment is butcher’s broom. This is also known as box holly, knee holly or sweet broom. It can be found in tea or capsule form. This treatment acts as an anti-inflammatory and constricts the veins which will eliminate the uncomfortable symptoms.
