Never Too Old to Play the Guitar

As it turns out, the old adage, “You can’t teach an old dog new tricks,” is completely wrong. You can, literally, teach an old dog new tricks. Over time, we have adopted this saying for people, rendering the elderly hopeless, and making aging look like such a bad thing.

Learning to play a musical instrument requires patience, practice, a certain level of dexterity, and a slight ear for music. These are true of any instrument, including the guitar. The guitar is a bit of a meticulous instrument, with its precise finger placements. But it’s relatively easy to learn when compared to some other instruments.

Lessons are probably the easiest way to learn to play the guitar. Of course, guitar lessons aren’t just for kids; you can find adult guitar lessons too. Lessons give feedback and direction, and they keep students on a practice schedule so you don’t put your guitar in some obscure corner and forget about it. Adult guitar lessons, especially, will usually take into consideration working schedules and family obligations.

So, if you want to learn to play the guitar, but you feel like you are too old, think again. Adult guitar lessons are always available, aging isn’t a hopeless venture, and you’re never too old to learn something new.
